Watch For the Rock
Message from Mayor Lee Kennard
"...located on Agimak Lake and surrounded by forests, rivers and lakes"
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Ignace and share my excitement about living in a small community close to nature yet ready for new developments in forestry and mining that are on the horizon.
Resolute Forest Products is committed to a $32 Million investment to reopen its Ignace Sawmill with additional plans to construct a Planer and Kilns in 2013. Bending Lake Iron Group is approaching a new threshold with environmental assessments underway. Construction of the open pit iron ore mine just south west of Ignace is expected to begin in 2014.
Ignace is located at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 599 north to Savant Lake, Pickle Lake and northern Ontario's mineral wealth that is known as the 'Ring of Fire'. Noront Resources is developing plans for its Eagle's Nest Mine and will be transporting the concentrated ore along Highway 599 to Savant Lake where it will be transferred to containers on the Canadian National Railway line.
The optimism for Ignace's future has sparked residential sales in town and Council has set aside strategic properties for development when the time comes to welcome newcomers to fill the jobs that will be created in the next few years.
And in recent years we have been welcoming retirees to the community. They want the rural lifestyle with nature at our doorsteps yet all the amenities of the 21st century. Internet communications and social media can be as much of your life as you choose.
