Ignace supports local enterprise:

  • Bending Lake Iron Mine is planning the development of their nearby ore body to the southeast of Ignace
  • Resolute Forest Products is planning to reopen the Ignace sawmill and construct a Planer and Kilns.
  • Highway 599 between Pickle Lake and Ignace is the first choice for access to the mineral wealth of the Ring of Fire
  • Tourism is a key player in the local economy
  • The food and accommodations sector along the Trans-Canada Highway plays a vital economic role

The Ignace Economic Development Committee (EDC) is a committee of Council, and its mandate is to optimize economic opportunities available to the Township and to make recommendations to Committee of the Whole.
Current membership (2012) includes: Chair Karen Greaves, Dianne Loubier, Arlene Evans, Dennis Smyk, and Penny Lucas; Council appointees Chicki Pesola and Al Graver; and Mayor Lee Kennard as an ex oficio member.


Currently the Economic Development Committee has been suspended until further notice and no regular meetings are being held.
